Dror , a JAJAH employee from Israel , was selected by our parent company Telefónica to participate in this life changing volunteering experience. In an effort to increase awareness, Dror is reporting to us in real time directly from Guatemala:

Democracy day – Guatemala became a democracy only in 1996. The kids learn what democracy is and how to vote.

Research day – the kids learned how to research on their own. We learned  what internet is, how you can use it for research and search, We learned about Google, Wikipedia and facebook. We also learned how to conduct a survey and reach conclusions.

The kids are amazing, eager to learn and always with a smile on their face. It will be hard to leave them. You can see their smile in every painting they have made.

The volunteers are full of enormous motivation and work in synergy as a team. Every each and one of them is one big gift.

“Day 3 -We finally arrived the school, meet the children, their parents and their teachers and start to prepare program and activities for the next two days. Fun, fun, fun…”

“Orientation day, meet the rest of the group: People from Spain, Peru, Germany, UK, Columbia, Venezuela and Mexico. Really great peoples each of them with extraordinary passion for volunteering.

This Day included tour day to explore Guatemala city, the history, their culture, lifestyle and more.
We had great tourist guide Nadia that teach us the first word in Kaqchikel: Utz’ipetik = Welcome”

For all of them it wasn’t easy to pronounce the name Dror so have short session on that
Now they all (I hope) know how to say it well and Also Knows about Idan Raichel and his Spanish songs: Cade dia, todas la palabras.

Today, we are very excited to tell you that our very own JAJAH employee – Dror Y – from Research and Development team was selected by Telefónica, our parent company, to participate in the volunteering project Proniño 2011 , which seeks to stop child labor. Dror was selected to participate in a project that will take place in Guatemala! We asked Dror to share his journey.

“How I feel?  well, very excited, in an important mission, gratitude for getting this life changing opportunity” Said Dror -“Just missed the flight to Atlanta and have few hours to check in times square till the next one…

Today, we are very excited to tell you that our very own JAJAH employee – Irene G – from Customer Support team was selected by Telefónica, our parent company, to participate in the volunteering project Proniño 2011 , which seeks to stop child labor. The project will take place in El Salvador!

As a jajah ambassador, Irene will share this amazing life changing experience with us. What kids’ lives look like in El-Salvador, what she is teaching them and what she learned from them. The program starts August 13^th.

In the past few days we have been overwhelmed by the fantastic feedback on the new JAJAH Apps for iPhone and Android phone. People seem to love being able to call Facebook friends.

We’ve also had quite a few questions so below are the most common questions, with (hopefully useful) answers. If you have any more, please send them on over – mobile@jajah.com.

What are JAJAH Facebook calls?

It’s a new feature of the JAJAH app, available as beta to our users in US and Canada. You can call any Facebook friend, even if they aren’t a JAJAH member. You open the app, click the Facebook tab, see which of your friends are online, and click the one you want to call. Simple, free and cool (we think!).

How is this free?

JAJAH calls use a combination of internet telephony and traditional phone lines. That’s how we get excellent call quality.  Facebook Calls are free from JAJAH – your operator may charge you for a local call which, in most cases, will be part of a mobile plan so the minutes will simply be free. Even if it’s not, worst case scenario is you get an international call for the price of a local call. Sweet!

I don’t live in the US or Canada – when can I use the app?

You can currently download and use the free JAJAH App, which gives you great rate calling to anyone in the world. Unfortunately you won’t be able to make Facebook Calls, but we’re hoping to roll it out soon to more and more countries…watch this space.

Two exciting pieces of news today about the JAJAH Platform, with two fantastic companies chosing the JAJAH IP Communications Platform to roll out innovative new services.

Microsoft will be using JAJAH to add voice services in the Cloud to Micrososft Lync Online, and Philippines-based Globe Telecom, one of Asia Pac’s biggest operators, is using JAJAH to offer high quality, low cost calling solutions the the millions of Filipino’s living and working around the world.

We are very excited to announce the launch of Facebook calls from JAJAH – the first calling service for Facebook.
 
Released today in beta, Facebook Call, a new feature of the JAJAH App, lets you call any Facebook friend who is online, anywhere in the world. Your friend doesn’t need the app, no downloads, nothing – they just get a chat message saying you’re calling, they click, and you talk.

Totally secure

These days, not every Facebook friend is a real world friend, so there are times you may not wish to share your phone number. No problem. JAJAH Facebook call is totally secure. Your number will never be revealed.

Free you say?

Yes, JAJAH Facebook Calls are free from JAJAH. Your operator may charge you for a local call which, in most cases, will be part of a mobile plan so the minutes will simply be free.

Worst case scenario is you pay only for a local call and talk to anyone in the world.

How does it work?

• Download the JAJAH App
• Connect to Facebook
• Select a friend (only online friends will be shown)
• They will receive a message within Facebook chat advising of the call. Once they accept, the call is connected directly into their browser.

In addition to calling Facebook friends, the JAJAH App allows you to call any phone at incredibly low rates. Contacts are automatically loaded from the phone for click to call, or simply enter a phone number. The app uses the Internet (WiFi, 3G, GPRS) to set up the call, but once connected it’s a regular call, meaning excellent, reliable call quality and no big charges.
 
Anyone in the world can download the JAJAH App now. The Facebook Calls feature us currently only available in US and Canada, but we’re working on bringing it to everyone, everywhere.
