JAJAH Launches First Service As a Telefónica Company

Meet the new generation of communication

JAJAH is excited to announce the launch of O2 Global Friends – an innovative international calling solution offered for O2 customers. This is our first service launch as a Telefónica company, one of the largest integrated telecommunication companies in Europe.

JAJAH started as a simple web calling Startup Company based in Silicon Valley and quickly evolved to become a leader in IP communications, offering innovative solutions to companies such as Yahoo! Intel, eHarmoney and Microsoft. JAJAH was acquired by Telefónica in Europe and within 6 months is able to deliver a full operating and innovative service.

The exciting news about this launch is that it demonstrates the added value of JAJAH consumer IP-based services platform to large telcos such as Telefónica. We are witnessing a successful marriage between innovation and scale.

Call Global Dial Local
It’s a global communication era. People have friends and family around the world – this is a fact – and they use calling cards and international SIM cards in an effort to find the best way to call abroad. While current international calling solutions are complicated and expensive, technology allows for a better way.

O2 Global Friends gives customers the ability to make international calls by dialing a local number. O2 customers in Germany can now choose five friends who are abroad and get a local number for each of them, which they can call anytime directly from their mobile. No more calling cards or international SIM cards – just dial directly from your O2 mobile.

This is a fantastic example of how VoIP and traditional phone and mobile companies are coming together to bring the new generation of communication. We are excited to be part of the change.

Deal Completed

Telefónica today received formal approval from the Spanish Competition Authority, so its acquisition of JAJAH is now complete and we are now officially a Telefonica company.

As previously announced, JAJAH will continue to operate under its current brand, developing and managing outstanding IP communication services for our customers and partners.

JAJAH Supports Haiti Victims – Free Calls To and From Haiti and The Dominican Republic

JAJAH is deeply saddened by the recent events in Haiti. We would like to offer our condolences to the families of the victims and wish a quick recovery to all those injured.

To support the thousands of people who were hurt by the earthquake JAJAH is giving free calls to and from Haiti and the Dominican Republic until January 21st, 2010.

To get the free calls you can simply dial from your JAJAH account. All rebates are limited to $5 per user.  Your JAJAH account will be automatically credited with the 100% rebate during February 2010.

May our modest contribution help those in need.

JAJAH – a Telefónica company

I am very excited to let you know that a short time ago we signed an agreement with Telefónica Europe for them to acquire JAJAH Inc, subject to formal clearance by CNC, the Spanish competition authority. This is the culmination of several years of hard work, dedication and innovation from everybody in the company.

Telefónica Europe is part of Telefónica, one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies with more than 260 million customers in 25 countries including Spain, Europe and Latin America.

This is the beginning of the next exciting chapter in the JAJAH story. In 2005 we started with a mission to create services that help people communicate wherever they are, on whatever device they have. Four years later, with global travel, mobility and social networking booming, JAJAH has become the leader in the converging IP telecommunications space.

When we first met Telefónica, they outlined their global Internet and multimedia strategy to enable customers to enrich their lives through services that help them connect and communicate seamlessly – whether by voice, text or online via social networking mediums.  Clearly we have a lot in common, and as we’ve worked through the deal together we have been struck by the strength of our shared vision for global communications.

JAJAH will continue to operate independently, under the JAJAH brand, so very little will change day to day. The management team, including me, will remain in place and we will continue to grow.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of JAJAH – in particular to our amazing team in Israel and in Mountain View.
Clearly JAJAH has come a long way since 2005. What began as an innovative new global telephony service has become a multi-million dollar, cutting edge IP communications platform used by some of the world’s largest companies.

But clearly, there is still a lot left to be done, and with access to Telefónica’s extensive resource, we can achieve so much more. Together, we look forward to continuing to shape the future.

Trevor Healy, CEO

JAJAH Gives You Voice – Now In Vietnam

You asked, and we heard you. JAJAH is pleased to announce we now support services to and from Vietnam. And, you get your first call free.

How to call the world

Turn any international number into a local number –

  • JAJAH gives you a local number for each international number you currently have.
  • So, if you are in San Francisco trying to call Hanoi, you’ll get a 415.XXX.XXXX number instead of having to dial +84.4.XXX.XXXX.
  • And if you are in Hanoi, trying to call San Francisco, you will get a 04.XXX.XXXX number instead of +1.415.XXX.XXXX.
  • Save these local numbers in your phone then call the world like it’s local.
  • So you call global, pay local.

You can get a local number for anyone in more than 200 countries. Sign up today.

JAJAH Gives Voice To Twitter

JAJAH is launching a new service that allows users to make calls by using twitter. Twitter popularity demonstrates that people are looking for simple, short ways to connect globally. Now in beta, JAJAH’s new @Call service allows you to tweet your way to a call.

To initiate a call, you simply tweet a reply to the person you want to talk with and add the @call. For example, if you would like to call @username, tweet: “@call @username ”. Make sure there is a space between the two user names and that no additional text is added to your message. JAJAH will call you and your friend and connect the call.

Watch this demo to see how it works.

JAJAH@Call works no matter how you use Twitter, whether it’s via Seesmic, the leading social media management desktop client, TwitterFon, Twidroid, on your cellphone, or any other way.

During the beta phase the calls are limited to two minutes, US numbers only, and are free. If you would like to get notified when the service goes public, follow @Call.

For more information about this beta visit our JAJAH@Call page.
